Update:
Rod's funeral is to be held Monday 22nd September at Sirhowy Valley Cremotorium, Pontllanfraith NP12 2YT at 12 noon
.
Traditional attire to be worn but clubs officials, players, etc are welcome to wear their own club ties.

Everyone welcome to join the family for refreshments at Nelson Rugby Club, Shingrig Rd, Nelson, Treharris CF46 6EA

It is with great sadness that we report the sudden death of Rod Powell the long-time serving Secretary of Nelson Cavaliers AFC and member of the SW Premier Leagues’ Management Board since 2021.
.
In 2023 Rod received a Lifetime Achievement to Sport in the CCBC Sport Caerphilly Awards 2✫23 for his dedicated service of over 40 years to Nelson Cavaliers AFC having fulfilled numerous roles over that period representing the club as a player, manager, treasurer and latterly club secretary. Rod’s community service extended to serving on the Nelson Community Council.

Rod was also a regular Wales supporter regularly travelling across Europe to support the team.

Nelson Cavaliers AFC have lost a legend - the SWPL haven’t just lost a colleague but also our friend.

Our sincere condolences go to Rod’s family.
